WELCOME TO TORONTO'S FIRST ACTION FIGURE COMIC CONVENTION
AFCC AI Generated Art Policy
Effective Immediately
Action Figure Comic Con (AFCC) is a celebration of creativity, craftsmanship, and fandom culture. Our event exists to support and showcase the talent, skill, and originality of human artists and creators. To maintain the integrity of our Artist Alley and exhibitor spaces, AFCC has implemented the following policy regarding AI generated artwork.
1. AI-Generated Art Is Not Permitted
AFCC does not permit the display, sale, or promotion of artwork that is wholly or primarily generated using artificial intelligence tools or software.
This includes, but is not limited to:
- AI generated illustrations, paintings, prints, posters, or designs
- Artwork created using text to mage generators
- AI generated images sold as original art, fan art, or commissions
2. Definition of AI-Generated Art
For the purposes of this policy, AI generated art is defined as visual content created primarily by machine learning systems trained on existing datasets, where the final image is produced by an algorithm rather than by direct human artistic creation.
Using AI to fully generate an image, even if later edited, is considered AI generated art and is not acceptable at AFCC.
3. Human Made Art Is the Standard
AFCC proudly supports:
- Hand-drawn, hand-painted, or digitally illustrated artwork created by the artist
- Traditional and digital art created through human skill and decision making
- Sculptures, customs, crafts, and original creative works
Digital tools such as drawing tablets, design software, and photo editing programs are permitted as long as the artwork itself is created by the artist, not generated by AI.
4. Transparency & Artist Responsibility
Artists and vendors are expected to:
- Be transparent about their creative process
- Ensure all displayed and sold artwork complies with this policy
- Answer questions from staff if concerns arise regarding the origin of artwork
AFCC reserves the right to request clarification or proof of authorship if AI generated art is suspected.
5. Enforcement
Failure to comply with this policy may result in:
- Removal of AI generated artwork from display
- Immediate loss of artist alley or vendor privileges
- Removal from the event without refund
- Ineligibility for future AFCC events
These measures are in place to protect our creative community and ensure a fair, respectful environment for all artists.
6. Why This Policy Exists
AFCC believes conventions should celebrate:
- Originality
- Artistic integrity
- The hard work of human creators
AI generated art raises ethical, legal, and creative concerns within the artist community. This policy reflects our commitment to supporting artists who invest time, skill, and passion into their work.
7. Questions or Clarifications
If you are unsure whether your work complies with this policy, please contact AFCC organizers before applying or attending the event. We are happy to clarify expectations and help avoid misunderstandings.
AFCC is built by fans, for fans, and powered by real creativity.
